What you get

A simple engagement record you can trust

Per session
Marks and timestamps
Per student
Reviewable engagement record
Per class
Quick summary and export
This tool does not try to replace your LMS. It only answers one question: did they engage during class?

How it works

The goal is a fair record with minimal friction for you and your students.

1

Drop marks during class or recording

At natural points in the session, the instructor drops marks. No video editing, special recording setup, or LMS integration is required.

2

Students reach each mark in sequence

Each mark has a time window, so students need to move through the session at roughly the same pace as the class or recording.

3

Review engagement

Review marks, timestamps, and per-student session records with a quick class export option.

Why the mark system works

Mark is not tied to your LMS or video platform. It creates a lightweight timing record around the session itself, so skipping ahead or leaving the video in the background becomes less useful than simply engaging with the material.

No video editing Use your existing lecture or recording workflow.
No embedded quizzes Students do not need repeated interruptions just to prove they are present.
Reviewable timing Marks and timestamps give instructors a concrete record to interpret.

Supports RSI documentation

Online and hybrid courses often need clear records around participation and Regular and Substantive Interaction expectations. Mark does not replace institutional policy or legal review, but it gives instructors concrete engagement records to work from.

Participation patterns Review how students moved through sessions over time.
Exportable records Keep session and student summaries available when documentation matters.
Policy support Use Mark records alongside your department, institution, or program requirements.

FAQ

Do students need to install anything?
No. Students only need a browser and internet access.
Does Mark host my videos?
No. Mark does not host videos and does not need access to your video files or video platform. It stays separate from your recording and hosting workflow.
Does Mark integrate with my LMS?
Mark is not an LMS integration. It can be used alongside your LMS, and instructors can post Mark links wherever they already share course materials.
How do students and instructors sign in?
Mark supports OAuth sign-in, so users can authenticate through a trusted identity provider instead of managing another password just for Mark.
What does a demo involve?
We agree on a time and set aside about 30 minutes. The goal is to understand your class, show how marks and records work, and decide whether Mark fits the problem you are trying to solve.
What data is collected?
For engagement verification, Mark needs enough information to connect instructors, classes, sessions, students, marks, timestamps, and engagement records. Mark does not collect or host your video content. See the privacy policy for more detail.
Can departments use Mark?
Yes. Mark is a good fit for low-overhead department or program pilots. Instructors create and manage their own courses, students can self-enroll, and exports are available by course. Department or institution-level rollup needs can be discussed during pilot planning.
How much central administration is required?
Mark is designed to keep pilots lightweight. Instructors add their own courses, students self-enroll, users can be added in bulk when needed, and Microsoft OAuth can create users as they sign in.
Is this foolproof against cheating?
No tool is foolproof. The goal is a fair, reliable engagement signal you can use to support grading decisions without turning your course into a compliance exercise.
What does "privacy-respecting" mean?
Mark is designed to provide a reasonable engagement record, not invasive surveillance. The product stays focused on the teaching question: did they engage? See the privacy policy for more detail.
